“Intersection of Tradition and Technology: From Pixel to Fabrics” exhibition

As part of the “𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑷𝒊𝒙𝒆𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝑭𝒂𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒔: 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈” competition organized by the Royal Textile Academy and sponsored by the World Bank, the“𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚: 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑷𝒊𝒙𝒆𝒍 𝒕𝒐 𝑭𝒂𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒔” exhibition was opened at the Headquarters of the World Bank World Bank in Washington D.C. on April 23, 2024. This exhibition marked the concluding phase of the competition program.

Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck honored the event as the Guest of Honor, joined by esteemed guests including Her Royal Highness Princess Euphelma Choden Wangchuck, and the World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region, among other distinguished guests.

The World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region extended a warm welcome to Her Majesty, expressing it as a true honor to host Her Majesty at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, noting that it marked the first time such a high-ranking delegation had been welcomed at the headquarters.

The exhibition presented traditional regional costumes intricately woven with Bhutan’s cultural narratives along with the breathtaking creations from the digital textile design competition.

Her Majesty emphasized the competition’s potential to empower women through talent showcasing, creativity nurturing, recognition, and skill development opportunities. The event was a heartfelt celebration of Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage and its embrace of technological progress, reflecting the coexistence of tradition and innovation in Bhutanese identity.

Alongside the exhibition inauguration, a panel discussion focused on women’s economic and social empowerment in Bhutan, moderated by Mamta Murthi, the Vice President for Human Development, and featuring speakers from the UNFPA, the Royal Textile Academy, and the World Bank.
