Bhutan’s designers and weavers walked away with attractive prizes at a fashion show organised by Royal Textile Academy (RTA) and Textile Museum on May 15 at YDF hall in Thimphu.
The show was aimed at encouraging local fashion designers by providing a platform to showcase their talents.
More than 100 weavers from all over the country took part in the competition that showcased textile products from the annual National Design Competition. Bhutanese designers like Kezang, Sangay, Dorothy Gurung, Kencho Wangmo, Chimmi Seldon and Tshering Dem displayed their designs made out of Bhutanese textiles.
Thinley Pema took the first prize for gho design. Yangki took the second and Ugyen Euden, the third.
For kira design, Bangimo came first, Kinga Zangmo Wangchuk second and Kunzang Choden, third. Pema Dorji, Phub Dorji and Pem took the first, second and third prizes respectively in the embroidery category.
The winners, runners-up and the second runners-up of the three categories received cash prizes of Nu 50,000, Nu 30,000 and Nu 10,000 respectively. Ten weavers were awarded Royal Patrons Meritorious Award.
