The Department of Information and Media, Royal Government of Bhutan, Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) in collaboration with the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan (RTA) is organizing an exhibition titled “InFocus a photography exhibition” which will be open to the public from 30th April – 12th May 2021 at the Phase III Gallery, RTA. The inauguration was graced by Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the Royal Patron of the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan, as the chief guest on 29th April 2021. Hon’ble Lyonpo Karma Donnen Wangdi and Hon’ble Dasho Secretary Phuntsho Tobgay of the Ministry of Information and Communications also attended the inauguration. The exhibition catalogue was also launched during the inauguration. An overwhelming number of more than 800 photographs were received from which the selection committee selected 204 photographs. The exhibition catalogue features the 204 selected photographs along with the biography of the photographers. Given the space of the gallery, only 147 photos were displayed. However, all 204 selected photographs will be available for virtual view and will be uploaded on the Facebook pages of DoIM and RTA, for people who are unable to visit the exhibition. The photographers whose photos were selected for the exhibition will be given Nu. 1000 each for a photo. As part of the photography exhibition, a Selfie Contest is also being organized. This is to engage the youth in events such as exhibitions and also to promote exquisite photographs and the photographers of Bhutan. The exhibition is being organized essentially to showcase works of art and in this particular case, creative photography, talent showcasing, confidence-building and also to enable networking. The Department with its mandate to create a vibrant creative arts industry in the country takes this opportunity to promote our unique national identity and culture through creative photography. The works on display will also be promoted through social media. Our aim is also to support artists and other creative groups/individuals to pursue a sustainable career in this field. This exhibition and the selfie contest is expected to boost local creativity and appreciation for the art of photography.
