An art exhibition titled “Found Icons” by Zimbiri was inaugurated on 1 October 2017 at the Royal Textile Academy.
The introduction on the exhibition:
“Like Found objects, found icons takes preexisting images from traditional Bhutanese art and presents them in a way that creates new conversation.
It gives the audience a stage to consider how the re-presentation of the icons created a scenario reflecting society and its behavior. The use of traditional Bhutanese icons are ideal for this as they are singular in their uses much like the generally (intended) singular functions of everyday objects. Structured and recreated with such precision and lack of variation like a mass produced objects.”
The artist has used traditional Bhutanese earth paint (Sa-tshen) on a traditional Bhutanese canvas called “ray-shing” (cloth strung on wood). She says the exhibition is a tribute to Bhutan’s rich culture and heritage and fore sight of our Kings.
The exhibition will be on public display till 14 October 2017.
