Reducing environment pollution through sustainable clothing

In a move towards reducing environment pollution, an entrepreneur, Chandrika, comes up with first ever biodegradable clothes for different seasons.

Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck launched the products, yesterday.

The products are manufactured within the country. The natural dyes with Bhutanese textiles and wooden beads are the main components of her clothes.

“All the clothes need water and when washing nylon and synthetic, the tiny plastic microfibers goes to ocean and it is hard for fish to digest and indirectly we consume the fish. I have used all natural dyes like red cabbage, walnut, and green leave etc. And it won’t harm water like other chemical dyes,” said the apparel designer, Chandrika Tamang.

She also added that her clothes will take less time to get decomposed.

“According to research, other fabric like synthetic takes more than 30 to 40 years to decay. But raw silk bamboo fabric and other natural fabric take less and thus it is an eco-friendly”.

A fashion show was also staged during the launch.

The clothes will be displayed in the Royal Textile Academy for the next three months.
