Collaboration with Smithsonian CFCH
A team from the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (CFCH) led by its Director General Dr. Michael Mason was in Bhutan from April 2-11, 2018, as guests of the Royal Textile Academy. The CFCH and the RTA had signed an MoU in 2016 to collaborate on our shared purpose and in the planning and implementation of the Cultural Heritage Centre (4th Phase of the RTA Project). Both the organizations share a common purpose engaging in projects related to cultural documentation, preservation and representation as well as related skills in the areas of cultural heritage.
Over the last ten days, the team from CFCH and staff from RTA participated in a series of workshops and discussions on Research Framework, Temporary Exhibitions Development and the way forward; and also visited and interacted with several other players in the industry such as the Agency for Promotion of Indigenous Crafts (APIC), the National Museum, the Folk Heritage Museum and the Gagyel Lhendup Weaving Centre.
The RTA would like to heartily thank the team from CFCH for their commitment to share their expertise with the RTA and to work towards realizing our shared goals. We look forward to a very fruitful and meaningful partnership.
