Seventy students and five teachers from Little Dragon School,Thimphu, Bhutan visited the Royal Textile Academy on August 7,2019 as part of their outdoor learning session. The students were taken on a guided tour by the Curators, Program and Marketing Officer, and Asst.Conservator of the RTA. The students are taken on an interactive tour, they visit the two galleries of the Textile Museum and the Weaving Centre. Some students and a teacher tried their hand on weaving a muffler on the back-strap loom.
In addition, they also witnessed the ongoing Natural Dyeing Training Workshop conducted by the RTA for the skill development for the weavers.At the end of the tour, the students shared their takeaways. One of the students said that Textile Museum is the hall of history and it displays the culture and tradition of Bhutan. One student said it was a βjourney to the pastβ. Another student said that she learnt about the different textiles of Bhutan and its origin.
All schools are welcome to participate in the museum and weaving centre interactive tours.However, the schools have to pre book the tour a week earlier of their intended visit to the RTA. All tours availed by the schools are free of cost and we also provide souvenirs for the students.
